Approximately 80 Tunisian date farmers from the oases of Bargouthia and Derjine farm their palm gardens using traditional methods. On average, each small farmer tends to 50-100 palms on a hectare of land and produces 5-10 tons of dates a year.
gebana actively supports this small farm structure. Our co-workers in the field know the farmers personally and offer them support and education in organic farming. Paying a price that covers costs provides families with a viable economic existence.
