The activities of gebana in the region around Kelibi aim to strengthen small farming systems by supporting traditional cultivation methods and avoiding the use of artificial fertilisers and herbicides. By paying stable and fair prices, advising on organic production and through effective collaboration, gebana Maghreb has been successful in generating real value for the small farmers of the region.

The dates are Bio-Suisse, EU-Bio and NOP certified. gebana Maghreb and the farmer cooperatives of Bargouthia and Derjine are FLO (Fairtrade Labelling Organisation) certified. This Bio and Fairtrade certification ensures a long-term positive outlook. The figures speak for themselves, with total exports rising rapidly from 100 tons in 2005, to 350 tons in 2007.
